Scottish Rite Valley of Cedar Rapids

Rite Care is a summer speech and reading program of the Scottish Rite, and the speech clinic of the University of Iowa.

The Valley of Cedar Rapids recently concluded two Eastern Iowa Rite Care programs at Iowa City and Cedar Falls. The program was well received by parents and children through out Eastern Iowa Dr. Betty Merrifield, the Director of these programs is both passionate and commitment to the education of children with speech, language and hearing disorders. She is instrumental in the effectiveness and scope of the program

A unique feature of her program is her request that the parents or guardians contribute financially what they can to the program-even if it is only $5 or $10. No child is ever rejected from the program due to lack of the parents ability to pay. It is felt that it is important the parents or guardians "are stake holders in the program". It is important that due to their concern for the child that they observe the interaction between the clinician and child in order to practice with the child at home
