Scottish Rite Masonic Center This
property has been placed on the ____________________________________________ William Brown, of Cedar Rapids, was an architect on the building. The Brown, Healey, and Bock Architect firm is still a Cedar Rapids business. Fronting 180 feet on A Avenue East, between Sixth and Seventh Streets, with a wing on the west, extending 38 feet toward Sixth Street, and is 134 feet deep. On the first floor of the main portion of the building is the auditorium, 78 feet by 72 feet, seating 600 persons, with a working space on the main floor of 26 feet by 40 feet. The stage is 54 feet wide by 26 feet deep, with a proscenium opening of 36 feet by 18 feet. The west wing contains a classroom with a floor space of 58 feet by 35 feet. In the front of the building are two offices, each 24 feet by 15 feet; also the entrance lobbies and stairways to the upper rooms. In the southwest corner is the lounge or reading room, 50 feet by 31 feet. On the east is the dining room. 44 feet by 90 feet, capable of seating 600 people, and the kitchen, 22 feet by 40 feet. On the second floor, over the offices and lobby is a social room 22 feet by 60 feet, and over this, on the third floor, another classroom, 44 feet by 22 feet. Both the second and third floors have bathrooms and preparations rooms, etc. Over the kitchen and immediately adjacent to the stage is the robing room, 22 feet by 50 feet. The building is built of Bedford stone, and cost approximately $250,000.
